Data Science for Service Design
This project identifies the opportunities for data science to support the service design process. It evaluates if the techniques meet the designer’s needs and fit the design process with user-centred activities.
Introduction to Data Science for Service Design
At the Design Research Society (DRS) Conference of 2020, Youet presented the research on Data Science for Service Design.
Data Science for Service Design
This paper was presented at the Design Research Society (DRS) Conference on the Data Science for Service Design project. It identifies the opportunities for data science to support the service design process.
Feedback for complex interactions
The Modeler is interactive and its feedback needs to explain what the consequences of the users actions are.
No more manual paperwork with Psymate
Many psychologists deal with a lot of paperwork and amateurish copy-paste work. This application helps psychologist to take neuropsychological tests and automate the reports.
Design Process Modeler
The Design Process Modeler personalizes a model that represents the design process by adapting to a series of questions. Here is a little warning: it is work in progress.
Ten month project: Data science in the design process
This project identifies the opportunities for data science to support the design process. It evaluates if the techniques meet the designer’s needs and fit the design process with user-centred activities.
The holistic double diamond, an extended double diamond design process
The holistic double diamond (HDD) is a service design process model. It is similar to the double diamond (DD) and includes a broader timeline than the DD and other models.
Service Design and Data Science workshop
This workshop involved a project that explored how data science can assist service designers. The evaluation workshop used the fictive company Public Transportation Company (PTC). The data science techniques were applied to the PTC case with different variations, and the designers were free to mix the output with methods more familiar to them.
Website concept: Postcard
One of the concepts for a wedding website was the postcard. First, the guest receives a personalised message like an invitation. The next cards show more detailed information and are animated like physical postcards. It would be possible to have clickable edges for all cards. In this case, other navigation is still necessary for quick access to an address, for example.
Japanese garden
This acrylic painting has a lot of texture that creates extra depth. It depicts the KĹŤko-en Garden in Himeji, Japan. I painted it from a picture I took in 2018.
HyperLAN themes
Each HyperLAN edition has its own theme, image and mug. This post shows some of the most popular ones so far.
Spenzen
This game is based on an existing card game. The redesign expresses a more mysterious and contemporary style, with self-made illustrations and wooden accessories.
Redesign of the Online Leeromgeving to fit in the University ecosystem
The online learning platform (OLO) is a platform for students and teachers to help the students learn and practice their secondary education subject matters. I took care of the redesign and UX of the platform. The goal was to go live and the challenge was to define and implement the MVP.
Learning platform helps students and teachers
From 2016 to 2018, I took care of the redesign and UX of an online learning platform (the OLO). It was challenging to balance the old application, the parent organisation (University of Twente) and an own identity.
Managing the pages of the Online learning platform
High school students can learn from and practise on the OLO platform. The content contains a network of interactive animations (submodules), exercises and courses. I sketched priority guides to help us combine and organise content and features on the pages.
Banana Family Tree
The caretakers of these banana plants live all over the Netherlands, but they are still in touch with the family history of their bananas. Online, they can read about many generations of their banana plants.
Packaging for Clipper
The package needs to meet technical requirements, but is it sustainable? This new concept protects the tea, milk can and sugar pot and is designed to include reusable and/or recyclable packaging.
Calligraphy cat
With ink and a few sketches, this cat was created. Later, I realised that it looks like an ear is missing.
Graphic language of products
We designed and branded a concept mixer for an existing brand that does not yet produce such a product. The team consisted of me, Jeroen Visser and Berber Bokkes.
Do-it: Guide
The Do-it system contains a trigger that stimulates positive experiences throughout daily life. This guide helps the user set up the trigger and learn positive new behaviours, such as talking a daily walk. I designed a guide, while the other team members focused on the trigger itself. The team included me, Evelyn van de Bildt and Marlin Bloemberg.
Do-it: Guide iteration
Here is an iteration of the Do-it guide. Each column is a step that the user takes, under which different ideas are placed. The options are later discussed and ranked. The setup makes it easy to keep track of the user's previous and next steps.
Do-it: Introduction storyboard
The Do-it system was introduced in a short movie. After brainstorming ideas for the movie, we decided to parody an influencer vlog. The storyboard shows the beginning of the movie. Shots A and B use different camera angles.
Design sketching
This case study explores sketching materials and textures. The controllers are the original PlayStation 4 Wireless Controllers by Sony.
Business card 2.0
The origami prototype of the You-et logo is a business card concept. This way, there is more room for content and it has a playful character.
Coraline movie poster
I designed this movie poster about the brilliant movie Coraline. I intended for it to capture the sweet yet scary vibe of the film.
Juicer
This sketch shows how a manual juicer designed for the workplace is used. The sketch needed to be clear yet made quickly.
Juicer prototype
This visual prototype represents a manual juicer for the workplace. Although it is missing many details, the model helps visualise the size, look and feel of the juicer and could be used for evaluation.
Previous portfolio website
The previous website was live from 2013 until 2020. At the time, it was a bit unorthodox with the prominent dark background.
Game changer at "Men of Steel"
LAN party association HyperLAN wanted to break the monopoly by hardcore players on competition prizes. How could we do this?
Academic website
In the academic world, it is important to promote your area of expertise and publications. This project resulted in a personal and low-maintenance website.
Copenhagen painted
Aquarelle was my favourite paint for many years. My other preferred paint is acrylic. The city displayed is Copenhagen, which I visited in 2014.
Flexible visual style of HyperLAN
While creating the visual identity and style of LAN party association HyperLAN, flexibility was important.
A gaming logo for HyperLAN
Mind maps, brainstorming and a lot of sketching resulted in many logos and ideas. However none of these first results were used.
Diagnosis Systems for Dementia
This project is an exploration of suitable AI techniques for Diagnosis Systems for Dementia. It looks at the practical side of a diagnosis system for dementia by making use of the knowledge of an expert in the field.
Special edition
In the media committee for S.V. CognAC, I was responsible for promoting activities, illustrations and posters. The pirate special edition is my personal favourite, which incorporates the association’s logo.
T-shirt design
Other illustrations I made for S.V. CognAC are the introductory T-shirts. Four years in a row, I won the competition for best introductory T-shirt design, although sometimes mine was the only submission.
Inked cat
This cat is made with Indian ink and dates from around 2007. In this case, I used a photo instead of a model.
